News and Events

Upcoming:

  • Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025: 10 am-noon, Meeting readers and signing books at Middle Fork Cafe, 309 Lakeland Dr. SW, Willmar.
  • Words on Paper columns posted weekly on Thursdays (Also on Substack): An author’s perspective on literature and the Great Conversation about the human condition.

Words on Paper recalls the values of trust, credibility, and professionalism in public communications, based on seeking truth, facts, hope, faith, and progress, yet seasoned with valid questions and discernment, even healthy skepticism. This defines the so-called Metamodern Era, transcending the anarchy and nihilism prevalent in the current world of digital communications that prolong the Postmodern Era.

My new novel, Beyond All That Matters, is now available in print. A somewhat myopic, self-reliant middle-aged man follows a mysterious guide toward new connections in family and community. Much of the setting is in South Dakota.

Good Ice:

…a fun book to read… entertainment with a backdrop of history and culture set in Minnesota… delights readers with its depiction of 1950s Minnesota… great story that touches on issues relevant for the setting… compelling and the writing clear and evocative…. creates characters with warmth and sensitivity…. Best book I read, ever; all my kids read it…

Buffalo Ridge:

… characters fully drawn, tension and setting real… gripping story… great job of developing the characters… you feel like they might have been your neighbors…a real page-turner…

The Swineherd’s Angel

…intriguing story set in America’s heartland… A great story! I enjoyed it very much … a thriller but one with regular people in it… well-rounded characters, believable, invest in and concerned about their fates. Not superspies. It works.

Beyond All That Matters

… a rare book. A story of friendships, love and making the lives of others better — with a cosmic spin. It’s well-written, with characters you’ll grow to care about and will keep you involved until the very end. – Dana Yost, Midwest poet and novelist, author of Before I Get Old.
